ERECT a statue of Richie Wellens outside the Arkells Stand, get both Sol Pryce and Scott Twine down to Buckingham Palace for their knighthoods, and arrange an open top bus tour around Swindon!
After 102 days we’ve finally won a league game at the County Ground!
Ok, maybe I’ve gone a too far with the statue, but as the full time whistle blew on Tuesday night it was such a joy to be leaving the County Ground knowing we’ve finally made some progress this season thanks to a huge effort from all eleven players on the pitch.
For the first time in months Town started a game on the front-foot and looked a real danger whenever they brought the ball forward, resulting in a dream debut for 18-year-old Sol Pryce.
The youth team striker enjoyed a memorable 82 minutes with his man of the match performance, scoring his first Swindon goal after just 18 seconds and doubling his tally with a sublime finish at the end of the first half.
Another youth team graduate Scott Twine also impressed the County Ground faithful, but this isn’t the first time he’s showcased his talent in a Town shirt, I’m confident we’ll see a lot more from both these strikers this season.
As a fan there are few things better than watching the development of players from your clubs youth academy, huge props should not only go to the players but to Alan McLoughlin and all the staff at every level for all the hours put in to help develop these players for first team action.
Now Town have won consecutive league games for the first time since January this needs to be the springboard for our season, if we can turn these results into a winning run we could see that successful season we were all hoping for back in the summer.
But before we concentrate on our League Two ambitions Town face Woking in the F.A Cup 2nd round this Sunday (2pm KO) at the County Ground.
If Wellens’ side take their recent league form into this tie we will finally see Swindon Town back in the F.A Cup 3rd round draw for the first time since 2012.
