Sian police cannot rule out further victims as they search for 'human remains'

Sian police cannot rule out further victims as they search for 'human remains'

DETECTIVES have said they are keeping an open mind as they use specialist dogs to search for 'human remains' in a field near Ramsbury after recovering items belonging to Sian O'Callaghan.

A dive team pulled two boots, which detectives believe belong to Sian, from a pond in a field two miles outside the small village after a review of the Becky Godden-Edwards case by a cold case team.

The 22-year-old was killed in March 2011 by mini-cab driver Chris Halliwell and officers now believe Sian may have been murdered at the new search location before being moved to Uffington, where her body was eventually found.

The murder weapon, a knife, along with personal items such as Sian's phone, handbag and jewellery have never been recovered.

Specialist cadaver dogs have been employed to search woodland near to the pond and Detective Chief Inspector Sean Memory said they had been tasked to look for human remains.

He said: "I cannot rule it out [that there may be more victims].

"I am open minded about what we might find here. We will be searching this area for a few more days, into late next week.

"We have cadaver dogs searching the woodland for human remains."

A map showing the route Sian O'Callaghan was taken in her final hours.

A: Old Town, where Sian was seen getting into Chris Halliwell's taxi at 2.57am on March 19, 2011.

B: The Savernake Forest where analysis revealed Sian's phone received a text from her boyfriend Kevin Reape at 3.24am.

C. The remote Ramsbury field where some of Sian's personal possessions were found today.

D. Uffington, where Sian's body was discovered on March 24, 2011.
