A unique aircraft from the U.S. Air Force has been spotted flying over Royal Wootton Bassett and other parts of Wiltshire.
An Osprey plane from the RAF Mildenhall base in the UK was spotted flying over Royal Wootton Bassett and down across the rest of Wiltshire just before 2pm on Monday (August 15).
According to Flightradar, the military plane flew straight over Royal Wootton Basset before turning west towards Calne, Melksham and Trowbridge.
It started its voyage just outside of Ely in East Cambridgeshire at 1.34pm on Monday before continuing south towards Wiltshire.
It later continued its trip further south towards Dorset and Cornwall.
The CV-22 Osprey is a tiltrotor aircraft that combines the vertical takeoff, hover and vertical landing qualities of a helicopter with the long-range, fuel efficiency and speed characteristics of a turboprop aircraft.
The mission of the CV-22 is to conduct long-range infiltration, exfiltration and resupply missions for special operations forces.
Despite its status as a Royal Air Force station, it Mildenhall primarily supports United States Air Force operations, and is currently the home of the 100th Air Refueling Wing.
