The owners of a retro toy shop in Swindon have revealed some of their famous clientele who have visited.
In 2021, Adam Kaye and his brother Matt founded the Back to the Past store at 49 Cricklade Road in Gorse Hill.
The shop specialises in selling retro toys, collectables, records, DVDs and more with an everchanging treasure trove of collectable memorabilia from popular culture available in-store each week.
During the year and a half of business which has followed, the pair say they have had several celebrity customers who have used the local Wiltshire shop for rare items.
“We’ve sold to Jonathon Ross, Keith Lemon, Warner Bros, Netflix, Coronation Street and Shameless in the past,” said Matt.
“They are mostly after props including old toys. I even sold a toy castle for use in Downton Abbey and they literally find us on the net and get in touch.”
Back to the Past’s first famous customer was Take That’s Gary Barlow who approached the dynamic duo for an instrument.
“Gary Barlow bought a keyboard off me after he’d moved his recording studio over in London,” said Adam.
“It was quite a rare Yamaha Breath Controller for a DX7 keyboard. We had a chat and he was very happy.”
The Swindonian brothers created the shop due to their passion for collecting and with the aim of bringing something unique to the Swindon high street.
“It is a hobby as we only open two days a week with those being Fridays and Saturdays,” said Adam.
“We started it as we had too much in our own collections and we attract those hardcore collectors, so we have got regular customers who come in often.”
The 51-year-old is celebrating Easter with some exclusive discounts on the collectible stock including the various vinyl records which they stock.
“All the records are half price for this week and they range from a couple of quid upwards,” said Adam.
“We have the Funko Pops for £5 this week too so you can come and get yourself a bargain.”
Despite the price slashes on some popular products, the shop does also stock items of higher worth and rarity too.
“The rarest things we have sold are some Hot Toys figures which are priced from £500 plus which are priced at around £900 new elsewhere,” said Adam.
“We’ve got pretty much anything and everything, so this is something for everyone.”
