A group of Swindon students, studying photography, have a special exhibition of their work on show this week.

A Few Frames is showcasing work from a BTech Level 3 extended Diploma in Photography course at New College. The exhibition is at the Post Modern Art Gallery, Theatre Square, Swindon from Monday, May 11 to Friday, May 15, open daily from 11am to 4pm.

Aled Simms is one of the students showcasing his work including a photograph of a street scene from his home town of Swindon. He said: "I chose to take photography at college as I find it the most interesting way of capturing images. I would like to make the media my career in the career in the future.''

The photographs on show range from fashion, urban scenes, landscapes and portraits. Samantha Noakes is hoping to learn more about fashion photography so took a picture of two dances in motion at a Clothes Show Live event, while Matthew Leggett took a selfie with a twist.

The unit was all about self portraits and choosing a character to portray so Matthew chose to be a homeless person. Georgia Franklin went for a scenic landscape shot at Stanton Park in Highworth.

Aled said that the students were putting on the exhibition as part of their current unit which challenges them to find clients and learn about photography in business.

Aled said: "In two years we learn different techniques such as using and developing film, medium format cameras as well as digital techniques and photo manipulation.''

He says the students plan either to go on to university or to find a photographic based apprenticeship or an actual job here in Swindon. - Flicky Harrison
