Market manager Kardien Gerbrands – aka Gerb – talks about what’s going on at Swindon’s farmers’ markets
Hinton Marsh Farm, who have a stall at the Swindon Designer Outlet every Sunday, have won two gold medals at this year’s Great Taste Awards.
Great Taste, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, is the largest and most trusted awards scheme for speciality fine food and drink. Putting foods to the taste test with a panel of over 400 experts is a quick way to get honest, straightforward and impartial feedback from chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers.
It is a tough competition and to win gold is a testament to the quality and taste of your product.
Hinton Marsh Farm received gold for the Standard Honey Roast Sausage and gold for the Gourmet Pork and Leek Sausage.
The Standard sausage was added to the product range in 2013 to offer customers an alternative to the Gourmet range, which they have been making for years.
The Gourmet sausage is a lean, single milled, sausage using only the finest cuts from the pig; legs and loins and no fat. Because of the quality of the meat in them, these retail at £5.20 for a pack of six.
The standard sausage is a great all round quality sausage. A smoother texture is achieved with double milling and they contain all cuts of pork from the pig. They retail at £3.60 for a pack of six or two packs for £6.
