EMPOWERING children to achieve the full stretch of their potential is a cornerstone of life at St Mary's Primary School in Purton.

Situated in a new build design in the North Swindon village, around 352 pupils are currently on the school roll with plans to grow to 14 different classes from September.

Despite its size it successfully retains its small village-school feel with a friendly family-orientated atmosphere.

With the support of a Christian ethos, lessons aim to teach more than academia, but also lifelong learning complete with core values such as respect and value for each other, confidence for life, a love of learning and self-belief.

The school also encourages pupils to accept and learn from their mistakes as well as be enthusiastic and take inspiration.

Mrs Laura Oakes, acting headteacher at St Mary's, said: "The pupils are proud of their school and every pupil is viewed as a unique individual who is encouraged positively to achieve to the best of their potential.

"The children experience a rich and vibrant curriculum with exciting topics that encourage creativity and new experiences. The school provides a wide range of enrichment opportunities for all ages, such as this week's Kaya drumming experience enjoyed by all pupils in the school. Activities like this one are frequently funded by the school's enthusiastic and dedicated PTA (Parent Teacher Association).

"Other events that have engaged the pupils this term and created opportunities for important home school links have included an Art Exhibition, Sports Showcase and a KS1 Parent/Carer afternoon.

"The school's core Christian values enable pupils to reflect upon their behaviour and learning. The school has good links with the local church community.

"Children enjoy many outdoor learning opportunities such as gardening and bug hunting in the nature area. A recently commissioned wood sculpture designed by the Collective Worship Group celebrates the pupils' awe and wonder of nature in the beautiful school setting."
