Pigstock gets under way at the end of this month with a hearty line-up of music, ale and fresh farm food.
The Royal Oak at Cues, Lane, Bishopstone is throwing its annual late summer music party, in the garden and farm of the quintesstially English country pub, on Saturday, August 30.
It is a family affair starting at noon for farm tours. The little ones can enjoy a tractor and trailer ride around the farm, to meet the pigs and cattle. They can join in a hedgerow walk to learn about the bird life, or drop in on the bees and taste the honey straight from the hive.
Pigstock music begins at 4.30pm, and this year has a varied line-up including Hangfire from Highworth, a jazzy Scottish influenced rock band, The Crimps playing blues rock, Jo Selbourne and friends, singing with guitar and harmonica, Pete Townsend, Bob Bowles playing blues, rock, pop and soul, and The Bish’s very own Cheesey band. The bands are donating their services for free, so the pub is donating £25 per band to Swindon and North Wilts Deaf Children’s Society.
There will be four or five real ale beers on tap and a barbecue cooking up some fresh farm fare in the pub garden.
More music comes from a local showcase of musicians at 3.30pm in the marquee. Camping is free. For more details call 01793 790481
