Leslie Charles Baxter

BAXTER Leslie Charles passed away on 27th March aged 89 years. Loving husband to Jane (deceased), proud father of David, John and Suzanne and grandfather of six. Les was formally the owner of CH Baxter and Son, a long-established family-run fresh produce business that was established in the 1920s by his Father and serviced retail and catering businesses, wholesalers and schools. He spent time giving back to the community as a local councillor between 1968 and 1976 and served on the board of North Wilts Building Society. Les was a sportsman at heart: a life-long Swindon Town FC season ticket holder, a Hockey player for Swindon Hockey Club, a member of Ogbourne Downs Golf Club and Swindon Hard Courts Tennis Club. Cricket was possibly Les's favourite sport of all. He supported Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, although he also spent one year at Worcestershire due to Tom Graveney's defection! He also followed Somerset CC with long standing friends watching icons like Ian Botham and Viv Richards. The family has chosen to have a small private funeral but if you would like to pay your respects to Les they ask for donations to be made to Age UK. In loving memory of Les please donate at www.hillierfuneralservice.co.uk/obituaries/leslie-baxter/ or send cash or a cheque made out to "Age UK" to John Edwards, the Funeral Arranger at Hillier Funeral Service. Address: 170 Victoria Road, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN1 3DF Hillier's Telephone: 01793 522797

My father, Albert Witts, worked for Baxters from 15 until he retired at 65.
Leslie Baxter was a kind employer who cared for his workers and their families. He will be remembered with respect.
