Roderick Paul Webber

Published on 14/04/2022

WEBBER Roderick Paul Passed away on 15th March 2022 in Hospital, Goshen, Indiana, USA, aged 75 years, of Covid complications. Son of Frederick and Barbara (both deceased), husband to Shari, stepfather to Amanda, step-grandad to Charlotte and Boyd, brother to Claire (deceased) and Elaine, uncle, great uncle and friend to many. Roddy was born in Swindon in July 1946 and after an apprenticeship at Vickers had a successful career as an engineer. In 1981 he moved to the USA with Deloro Stellite and made his home there, marrying Shari in 1993. He travelled extensively in his career and was also a qualified pilot, flying light aircraft for pleasure whenever he could. He also made and flew model aeroplanes. He had a love of animals and always had room for yet another cat or dog that needed a home. He had a terrific sense of humour and a mischievous streak. He returned to the UK regularly, until Covid struck, and met up with his many buddies whilst here. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. We are planning a celebration of Roddy's life later in the year.

Roddy was my good friend of over 45 years. I shared his house in Eldene when I moved out from my parents’ home and have many fond memories of our social life in Old Town and Wanborough, through the 70s and 80s, before I moved away from Swindon. It was great to meet up again with Roddy and other very old friends on his last few visits to Swindon pre-Covid. My sincerest condolences to Shari and her family in Indiana, and equally to Elaine, Colin and family in Swindon. RIP Roddy. (Photo was taken in the RAFA Club, c.1976).

I am sorry to have heard about the death of Roderick. If it is the same person I knew who lived in York road in Swindon.
Him and I was apprenticed together at the pressed Steel Fisher plant in Swindon.
And became good friends together until we went our separate ways in having
jobs in the different workshops.
Kind regards from Bob Manning, I retired from the plant after 42 years.
