THE DAILY deluge of rain is finally falling back after two weeks of disruptive weather.
Yesterday morning many commuters were hit with severe delays as rain pummelled down on Swindon.
Flooding between Swindon and Bristol Parkway caused delays for rail passengers of up to 15 minutes between London Paddington and Cardiff Central during the afternoon.
The Environment Agency issued a flood warning along the River Ray, which despite returning back within its banks in many locations, remains sensitive to any further rain.
Although Tadpole Lane in North Swindon was one of the worst affected areas of the flooding, Uplands School managed to survive the rising waters.
Lorna Braid, Marketing and PR Manager at Uplands, said: “We did see that Tadpole Lane had been flooded but we haven’t been affected by it.
“I think it all happened one lunch time when we were all inside the school, and it had cleared by the time the school day had finished and the buses came to take them home.”
St Lawrence C of E Primary School in Lechlade has also missed the worst of the damage, thanks to the school’s positioning above the river.
Headteacher Nicola Morris said: “It hasn’t actually affected us at all because we are a little bit above the river. We have an amazing view out over the surrounding areas which have been flooded.
“We also haven’t had any problems with children getting in to school.”
Although the worst of the rain has eased, residents can expect a mixture of showers with sunny intervals throughout the rest of the week.
