COUNCILLOR Nadine Watts has welcomed proposals for a new permanent play area in East Wichel.
Coun Nadine Watts, who represents Old Town and East Wichel, raised concerns last year that there was not a single play area in the new development.
Following her concerns, a temporary park was installed last year.
“I am pleased that the tender has now been awarded for the construction of the new play area in East Wichel and that the planning application has been submitted,” she said.
“There have been some delays with this project. “Some of this was due to Swindon Commercial Services being brought back into Swindon Council. I am glad that progress is being made. “The South Locality Team met with the developers before Christmas and the developers are considering extending the life of the temporary play area. Residents of East Wichel have had a long wait for this play area and the plans do look fantastic. I am pleased that local children will have a brilliant new play area.”
Work on the play area is scheduled to start at the beginning of April and should be completed by the end of June.
