THE SWISS CHALET
Chapel Street,
Tel: 01793 535610
WHAT’S IT LIKE?: The Swiss Chalet has built a reputation as the premier venue for live music in Swindon. The pub is as spectacular outside as it is inside – a sweeping roof making it a building that is almost unique outside the Alps. Hence the name, which it received in 1988, though when it was first built in 1964 it was called The Carpenters Arms. Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball are among the jazz giants who have played at the pub in recent years, but The Swiss Chalet is also renowned as a showcase for young Swindon pop bands.
WHO GOES THERE? The Arkells owned pub attracts music fans of all ages from Swindon and the surrounding area, making it the perfect place for a good night out. The venue serves pub food and a whole range of drinks.
PRICES? The pub serves 3Bs, 2Bs and Hurricane for £3.15. Carling and Corrs are £3.60, Kronenberg and Guinness are both £3.70.
