HAZELWOOD Academy is a friendly primary school and nursery nestled on the western fringes of Swindon.
It strives to work in partnership with parents and the benefit of this policy was recently demonstrated in a parent survey carried out by the school.
The feedback on the work of the academy was overwhelmingly positive, with the vast majority of parents saying that children are happy at school and feel safe.
However, such is the ambition of those who run the school that, despite an overall parent satisfaction rate of 91 per cent they are seeking to increase it to 100 per cent next year.
The children at Hazelwood are supported by enthusiastic and dedicated staff, governors and parents and the school strives to maintain high standards and excitement about learning.
Hazelwood Academy is a key member of Academies’ Enterprise Trust, the operational arm of the Greensward Charitable Trust, which is a federation of academies created to provide thousands of students with the best possible education.
AET aims to provide the opportunity for all youngsters to fulfil their potential, broaden their horizons and become active, prosperous and successful citizens in the world around them. AET believes all young people deserve to become world class learners – to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment, with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up to date resources available to them.
AET is committed to doing everything it can to ensure young people are able to, in the future, compete on the world stage with the skills, confidence and flair to generate new ideas, new initiatives and thereby make a full contribution to tomorrow's world.
Sport is very important to the school, with pupils achieving lots of success in both football and netball.
Hazelwood was recently told it was to receive a sports funding grant of £8,785 to improve opportunities for pupils to play sports in the school.
Plans this year include extending the range of clubs and sports available to pupils as well as providing coaching and mentoring for existing staff.
The school will also be improving resources for both indoor and outdoor sports provision on top of promoting the playing of competitive sport and healthy active lifestyles amongpupils.
The possibility of having taster sessions at the Link Centre is also being explored.
