CATHERINE Wayte Primary School prides itself on doing everything it can to support the young people of North Swindon.

Established in 2000, the school, in Elstree Way, has around 420 pupils with two classes in each year group.

It was named after Catherine Wayte, who set up her own school in the 19th century because she was concerned that the children of Blunsdon, St Andrew and Rodbourne Cheney weren’t receiving high quality education.

Catherine Wayte Primary’s key principles are to provide a full and varied curriculum while encouraging their children to develop self-discipline, independence and respect for others.

Headteacher Laura Brierley said: “While setting high standards for children in academic and social and emotional aspects of education, we strive to create an environment where they can experience success and happiness and where every child is able to reach their full potential.

“We strive to provide a broad and balanced curriculum and value learning which is meaningful. We are very proud of our excellent academic standards and we are also pleased to celebrate the achievements of pupils in sport, music and art.”

Following the school’s last Ofsted inspection in September 2010 it received an outstanding rating. The inspectors praised the quality of leadership and staff, saying they had made a vibrant and supportive place for children to learn.

Pupils have all the latest technology at their fingertips with access to laptops, digital cameras and digital microscopes.

The school wants parents to take an active role supporting their children with homework and they also work closely with the PTA.

There is a breakfast club from 8am where children can eat with friends and also take part in games and activities. The Big A Club provides care for children between 3pm and 6pm.
