YOUNGSTERS got to test their business skills in a Dragon’s Den-style environment to raise money for charity last week.
The teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, were looking for money to run fund events as part of their National Citizen Service award.
The challenge has involved the youngsters spending time in outdoor adventure activities and learning about self-sufficient living.
For the final part, they have been split into teams and each has nominated a charity for which they will raise cash.
Carole Willis, who is running the course, said: “This course is a great way of giving them extra skills and building confidence.
“There are children from all over Swindon and this group has been fantastic. Here we have been getting them to apply for funding to run things like cake stalls or car washes.
“They then raise money for the charities, such as the Food Bank and Prospect.”
Among the Dragons was Swindon North MP Justin Tomlinson, who said: “I am a huge supporter of the NCS programme and we have seen some great presentations.
“It is a great opportunity for young people to engage with their communities and it is a boost to their CVs.”
