DIABETES UK is looking for volunteers to take part in Healthy Lifestyle Roadshows in October and November.
The 10 roadshows, run with Wiltshire Council, are aimed at finding some of the one in seven people at high risk of Type 2 diabetes.
Risk assessments are being carried out here and in town and city-centre roadshows UK-wide. People at moderate or high risk are referred to their GP.
Volunteers will raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK; carry out risk assessments by measuring height, weight and waist measurement and asking a series of questions; and encourage visits to a GP or practice nurse if need be.
They will be given full training, with a training day for in September. Volunteer expenses will be covered. More than 5,000 people in Wiltshire are estimated to have undiagnosed diabetes. Being referred to their GP can be an important step to getting an early diagnosis, treatment and care.
The roadshows will take place in Melksham on October 7, Devizes on October 8, Trowbridge on October 9, Warminster on October 10, Chippenham on October 11, Pewsey on October 28, Amesbury on October 29, Bradford on Avon on October 30, Calne on October 31 and Salisbury on November 1.
To volunteer email south.west@ diabetes.org.uk.
