STUDENTS picking up their results at Commonweal yesterday collected them at the new sixth form building that many will be attending from September.
Construction of the new facility was completed last month and more than 100 pupils will be returning as the school offers sixth form provision for the first time.
From 9.30am onwards, the students began arriving at the new state-of-the-art lecture theatre to pick up their results.
Twins Yasmin and Saffron Wood picked up almost identical results, made up of As and Bs, and will be coming back next month to study for A-levels as they both aim to be graphic designers.
Yasmin, 16, said: “I am really pleased with how I’ve done and am excited to be coming back. We both worked really hard to get these results so it is nice we have done well.”
Saffron said: “There is no competition between us, so we both support each other. Both of us want to be graphic designers so it’s good we can come here together.”
Among the students celebrating at the school was Toni Manning, 16, who got seven A*s and three As.
“I am so pleased with how I’ve done and it’s a lot better than I thought I had done,” she said.
“It is really nice to have got the grades I needed, so I can now relax.”
Charlotte Osborne was also jubilant after she performed well in her exams, receiving seven As and two Bs She said: “I am really pleased to get these results because I worked hard. I’m going to college but I don’t know which one yet so I’m going to decide over the next few weeks.”
Deputy head Chas Drew said the results were very positive for the school.
“With the new exam regime it is quite hard to see where we compare in the national picture at this stage but we are very pleased,” he said.
“The school got 64 per cent A* to C grades with more than 70 per cent in English and maths, so that is very positive.”
