AGE UK Wiltshire could be awarded a grant of up to £3,000 after being shortlisted for the Lloyds Bank Community Funds 2014.
It will now be up to the public to vote for the charity and allow it to receive valuable funding.
Age UK Wiltshire has been helping the elderly for more than 65 years and its priorities have evolved to meet their ever-changing expectations.
Its services include befriending, telephone befriending, and volunteers and staff also provide information and advice and help with benefit claims. They promote health and fitness activities, IT sessions and lend their support to local community day centres and lunch clubs.
Allison Davis, of Age UK Wiltshire, said: “The Lloyds Bank Community Fund award will be used to support the start-up of additional activity clubs by helping to fund the financial cost attributed to an exercise tutor.”
Age UK Wiltshire’s existing clubs have developed in many different ways. Each club usually starts with a formal activity run by a qualified exercise tutor – this could be chair based exercise – and then there’s time for a tea/coffee followed by an informal session of activities such as new age kurling, bowls, skittles, quoits or darts.
