THE management of Crazy Crocs Club is proud of the children’s holiday group despite Ofsted inspectors calling for improvements to be made.

The authority carried out an inspection of the holiday club, based at Stratton Community Leisure Centre, on August 4.

Inspector Rachel Edwards said the club required improvement.

She called for particular attention to its admininstrative systems as a registration certificate was not on display and some staff Disclosure and Barring Service (DRB) certificates could not be presented when requested.

The report also claimed that staff did not follow the club’s medication storage policy, and also called for the group to provide more outdoor activities for visitors.

Ian Green, centre manager, said: “Basically, the issues which the inspector encountered were mostly paperwork-based.

“We accept this. We’d recently had a refurbishment of the facility and some of the paperwork was all over the place. We now have our certificate on display and have our six staff members’ DRB certificates.”

Mr Green said he was pleased with the activities the club – which cares for children aged between four and 12 – provided for users.

When Crazy Crocs Club was last inspected, in June 2010, it was rated as good. L ast month’s report praised many aspects of the group, particularly the support staff provided, the positive development children made and the club’s management.

Ms Edwards said: “Adult-led activities are extremely well organised. During the inspection, staff explained the rules of a game very clearly, so all the children understood.

“They skilfully adapted the activities when there was a mixed age group playing, so children did not get bored and everyone joined in. Staff are sensitive to children’s needs and interests.”

A follow-up inspection will take place to check the progress that the group is making.

Mr Green said he would look forward to welcoming an inspector and to improving the ranking.

He said: “Other than the paperwork issues there are many positives in the report.

“The inspector approved of the sessions that we deliver and the feedback we receive from parents is great. Our latest sessions have been full up so we must be doing something right.”
