HOUSEHOLDS are being urged to be on their guard after reports of a suspected phone scam.
Swindon Borough Council’s call centre has received several calls from residents who have received calls from men claiming to be from the council.
The callers ask whether they or anyone else in their property has been in a car accident, but when asked to confirm his name and the department he is from, does not respond.
The men also withhold their numbers.
The council would like to inform residents these calls are not genuine and that if anyone receives a call of this nature, which they suspect may be a scam, they should call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
Residents can also register with the Telephone Preference Service via www.tpsonline.org.uk or by calling 0845 070 0707.
