A FIRM desire for their pupils to be a success is at the heart of Holy Cross Catholic Primary School.

It serves children from the the parishes of Holy Rood, St Peter’s, in West Swindon, St Joseph’s, in Wroughton, and the Sacred Heart, in Royal Wootton Bassett.

The school, in Upham Road, has 270 pupils and was rated as good by Ofsted when they inspected them last June.

Tony McAteer, headteacher, said: “We pride ourselves on being a progressive, vibrant, learning community which highly values its cultural diversity.

“The children at Holy Cross are taught by an experienced and dedicated team of professionals with an aspiration of ensuring that learning is fun and teaching is creative.

“Children are taught in a happy, well disciplined environment and are inspired to see learning as a lifelong experience.”

The school received lots of praise for their teaching during Ofsted’s visit last year.

“Teaching is good across the school and, as a result, pupils enjoy learning. They are very keen to answer questions in class and to do well in their work, which contributes to the good progress they make,” a statement in the report said.

“Teachers explain clearly what the pupils are expected to learn and they use information and communication technology appropriately to support learning.

“They use questioning effectively, both to check that pupils understand the new ideas and to make sure that pupils are confident about the work that they have to do.”
