Family-run firm hands over reins after three decades

SWINDON-BASED car dealership TH White is selling up Land Rover after three decades of selling the brand.

After 31 years the Royal Wootton Bassett-based firm has handed over its successful Land Rover dealership to Cambria Automobiles, a £500 million specialist motor business with 28 dealerships and representing 45 franchises and 17 brands in a portfolio spanning the high luxury, premium and volume segments.

Cambria operates the Grange Land Rover dealership in Barnet, Hertfordshire.

The sale was completed on May 1.

A spokesman from the company said: “TH White would like to thank its Land Rover customers, many of whom have been loyal to the business ever since it started in 1989, and hope that they will continue to support it in the future.

“The entire staff of the Land Rover dealership, including business manager Nick Down, have transferred to Cambria and the business will continue to trade from the Wootton Bassett site until it is relocated to a brand new building which will also house Cambria’s Jaguar dealership in Swindon.

“The sale was completed on May 1 after 31 years in TH White ownership, during which time the dealership achieved numerous accolades for sales and service. It follows a series of strategic decisions which will see TH White’s motor sector focus its activities on the company’s new award winning Fiat Group Brand Centre in Swindon – the first to be purpose-built in the UK – which includes Jeep 4x4 vehicles.

“Some of the staff joined TH White before the company took on Land Rover and many have been with the dealership for more than ten years.

“TH White is confident that all members of the team will continue to do their utmost under the Cambria umbrella to provide the service that Land Rover customers expect – we wish all of them every success for the future and offer grateful thanks for their help in building up a great business.”

Established in 1832, TH White is a private family-run company and was one of the first businesses in the UK to set up an employee share ownership scheme.

With turnover last year in excess of £140m and more than 540 employees, the company has eight divisions.

Besides the Fiat Group Brand Centre, these include businesses selling and servicing agricultural, construction, professional grass care machinery and lorry cranes and businesses designing and installing fire, security, renewable energy and materials handling and storage systems.
