CHILDREN at Bishopstone Primary School are encouraged to become the best version of themselves in the gentle idyll of rural Wiltshire.
Set in the heart of Bishopstone, dedication to community is a cornerstone of the school’s principles, which also include fostering and promoting Christian values and ensuring high quality teaching standards.
Headteacher Emma Lindsay said: “Bishopstone Church of England School is a rural community school, where children become the very best learners they can be.
“Bishopstone school aims to provide the highest quality education, which enables pupils to develop spiritually, morally, academically, physically, socially and emotionally.
“In order to maximise individual potential, we aim to provide a stimulating learning environment extending beyond the constraints of a small village school to include the local parish church and the village community to the benefit of all.
“It is a small school situated in the centre of a lovely downland village. It was established in 1849 and is still housed in the original Victorian building.
“It is an idyllic setting by the village pond and the children are able to gain from first-hand experience of the local environment.
“Bishopstone school is at the heart of its community and welcomes everyone. Local groups hire the village hall through the school, and all our community are invited to our fairs and events.
“Our children are taught to care for each other and are aware of who lives in our community through activities such as harvest food box deliveries to the local elderly.”
As well as reading, writing and maths, children at Bishopstone school have chances to learn science, geography, history, music and art.
The school has also been praised by Ofsted inspectors, who awarded the school a good at its last inspection in March.
Gill May, chair of the board of governors, said: “The entire report is a celebration of what can be achieved when all within a community work together to ensure our children are valued, cared for and challenged to fulfil their dreams.”
