A TALENTED ten year old is taking Swindon residents on a whistle-stop tour of the town’s best-loved historical locations in his new documentary.

Kody Bowler, from Broome Manor, wrote, presented and produced the ‘Ye Olde Swindon’ film – a 10-minute, 10-location journey through Old Town and Greater Swindon.

The Year 5 pupil was given the assignment as part of a project at Lawn Primary and soon made up his mind as to how he could bring the town to life.

Kody’s mum, Janine, 42, said: “His homework was to find out some interesting facts about historical Swindon and present it in whichever way he wanted to.

“Kody is into making films on his iPad so knew instantly what he wanted to do.

“I can’t explain it, when the camera goes on something magical happens to him and he turns into this TV presenter.

“I told him if he wanted to do this he had to do his research and he went online just like that and wrote a script.”

Armed with an IPad and copious research notes, Kody set about producing an interesting, informative and funny take on the history of the town.

He spent two days on location filming segments for ‘Ye Olde Swindon’, which featured his favourite haunts, such as the Arts Centre, the Goddard Arms, the Pig on the Hill, Coate Water Country Park and the County Ground where he played the part of a die-hard football fan.

Siblings Greg, six, and Maxie, three, also made cameos in the ten-minute film, and it seems the tiny TV presenter is a natural when it comes to stepping into the spotlight.

Janine said: “He’ll only take one take to get things right and then he’s on to the next one.

“He feels now there are so many interesting places in Swindon that people just don’t know about yet.”

Kody posted the film to his You Tube channel, KodyTube, which features his other videos including ‘A day in the Life of a Mayan’ and a Jessie J parody to her hit song, Price Tag, filmed in the aisles of Waitrose and at the Marriott Gym.

Janine said Kody was excited when it came time for him to show his classmates.

“He had an extra spring in his step that morning when he went to school and all of his classmates got really excited when it’s time to present his homework because they know he’ll have filmed something,” she said.

“He’s remained very modest about it all though.”

The talented youngster and Saturday student at the Wilkes academy was recently cast as a dwarf in the upcoming Christmas pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at the Wyvern Theatre.

But his extra commitments have not put the ambitious youngster off planning a sequel to his hit documentary, featuring the Mechanics Institute.

“I’m really proud of him, he’s so confident and into the performing arts, so to see him doing this and he’s so young as well, it seems like he’s been doing this for years,” said Janine.

“He’s proud of the town and he’s proud to come from here.

“He’s learnt a lot from this because it’s putting facts into a format which interests him and he knows things now that even I don’t know.”
