YOUNGSTERS put their heads together to create unique cardboard sculptures to celebrate local packaging firm GWP’s 25th anniversary.

Students from Swindon College put their cardboard creations on display in the Brunel Centre earlier this week.

The display was commissioned by the firm to celebrate their quarter-century anniversary.

Students in the Swindon College School Of Art And Design were awarded prizes by GWP for winners in several categories, as well as a best in show winner.

Jill Marshall Simms, the art and design curriculum area manager at Swindon College, said: “Working with GWP has given the School of Art an excellent opportunity to present students with a live brief.

"All the students have really engaged with the project and this is evident in the work they have produced, I am very proud of the creativity and ingenuity that the students have shown throughout this project.

"We hope that this project will be the start of a continued relationship with GWP.

"And we are continually on the look-out for other opportunities to forge greater links with local businesses and community groups.”

Level 3 art and design student Riana Ciliberto was one of the youngsters taking part in the exhibition, and worked with Jack Martin to create a Smeg fridge.

“It was very challenging at first as we didn’t know what to create, but when we discussed ideas we chose to make a smeg fridge and we are really pleased with the outcome, we wasn’t expecting it to look this good,” she said.

Student Kaitlin Brodie said: “Knowing the public can come and appreciate our work is great.”

And Amelia Vitorino said: “Working on the open brief we have been able to adapt to different styles. It allowed us to share ideas and to express ourselves.”
