SWINDON Town at Wembley is bigger than Christmas, at least for one family jetting halfway around the world to see the Robins in action next weekend.

Lee Bizley, who emigrated to Australia from Swindon in May 2007, has decided to cancel Christmas with his family in Wiltshire in favour of being at the League One play-off final.

The 36-year-old plans to use his 2015 flight budget to get him and his 12-year-old son back to England from their Melbourne home in time for the game.

Despite leaving Swindon at such a young age, Ciaran has fallen in love with the team and regularly listens to early morning broadcasts of matches alongside his dad.

Lee and Ciaran were two of the few people awake in Australia when Town kicked off their semi-final match after 4am local time on Tuesday.

“It was a fantastic game,” said Lee.

“I’m still getting over it now. When Obika poked his home I thought that was it. I was celebrating.

“Then we were hanging on at the end.

“My son absolutely loves football.

“He’s really got the Swindon Town bug.

“We aren’t going to deny ourselves a trip.

“We can’t wait to get back to Wiltshire and then get out to Wembley with all the other fans.

“It was Tuesday morning over here when it kicked off at 4.30am, so I had to convince my wife about flying back once we had all been to bed.

“She’s been very understanding. I had to persuade her because initially we were going back to Swindon at Christmas for family, but that’s all been put off for this.”

Lee got the green light from his Swindon-based dad yesterday about tickets for the Wembley finale The dishwasher sales manager moved to Australia with wife Charlotte for a better quality of life, but as a result missed Town’s last two Wembley trips.

He was at the old Wembley for their victories in 1990 and 1993, but knows next weekend will be a special event to share with his son. “I have said to a few people, it’s only money. At the end of the day these are memories you can’t buy,” he said.

“I just want him (my son) to experience it.”

Ciaran, who is also a fan of Hawthorn, a team in the Australian Football League, said: “I’m pretty excited to go.

“I have seen that it’s a really big stadium. I have never been to anything that big before.

“The last game was so nerve-wracking to go from leading 3-0 and being so close to extra time at the end.”
