CHILDREN at Drove Primary School spent Friday morning dodging their PE lesson as they took part in a dodgeball tournament in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

But teacher Tiffany Boyd said the children’s avoidance efforts were all in a good cause.

“The children have been practicing playing dodgeball for a few weeks and earlier this year we called up the British Heart Foundation to sign up,” she said.

“We don’t play a lot of dodgeball in PE but we thought we would sign up to this and try and raise some money for charity at the same time.

“Around 90 Year 5 pupils took part and they all raised sponsorship money before they spent the morning playing until we were left with one winner - Dodge Masters, they called themselves.

“We don’t know exactly how much money was raised yet because we haven’t collected all the money in.”

The school decided to support the BHF as one of several charities the school supports during the year.

Tiffany said: “We support several charities here at Drove and the BHF is an important one for us.

“It all went really well and the children had a really good time.”

Dodgeball teams are made up of six to ten people and there are five, two-minute games, with different players playing each game.

Players throw the ball at each other. If you’re hit, you’re out. If you dodge it, you’re not. If you catch the ball, the thrower is out instead and can bring an ‘out’ player back.
