LOVE, care and respect are the bywords of life and learning at Broad Hinton Primary School.
Nestled in the Wiltshire Downs, the school was originally founded in 1743 and offers a holistic and nurturing curriculum.
“Whilst valuing children’s academic achievements, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop socially and we achieve this through small group work, large discussions and individual work focussing on personal and social development,” said headteacher Elizabeth Floyd.
“All members of staff believe that every child needs to feel happy and safe in their learning environment and we do our utmost to ensure this. Our professional and enthusiastic staff provide a quality education, in a safe and secure environment delivered through a creative and stimulating curriculum. We believe that each child needs to find enjoyment in a variety of aspects of school life and to gain satisfaction, challenge and pride from their own achievements.”
The school works closely with a number of groups and clubs in the area, from the local rugby teams and after-school groups to the village community as a whole to develop the children at Broad Hinton.
“We encourage positive role models within school from everyone and in particular from the children themselves, who have a strong voice to develop our school environment, their learning and leadership skills. Everyone knows each other through the school, from the oldest to the very youngest, staff, parents and children alike.
“We pride ourselves on the welcoming and family atmosphere we create for our children, parents and community. We provide opportunities for all our children to learn and achieve within a happy, safe, structured and disciplined Christian environment, including gifted children and those with specific needs.”
The school also has a broad range of extra-curricular activities including sport, music and other creative pursuits.
“Unusually, we believe we have captured the ‘small school’ ethos with ‘big school’ opportunities,” said Mrs Floyd.
“Here at Broad Hinton School, We are proud of our educational heritage and the fact that generations of children have left the school with a love of learning, well prepared for secondary school and adult life. We encourage pupils to develop as creative, innovative and responsible individuals within a learning community that values the input of the pupils themselves as well as that of parents, governors, the church and the wider community.”
The school also supports an active group of Friends which has raised thousands to support the school with various resources.
Mrs Floyd said: “The Friends is about much more than simply fundraising. It exists to provide closer links between home and school and it is an excellent way to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school, working towards a common goal.”
