SWINDON swimmer Jazz Carlin said that she felt comfortable after booking her place in the final of the 800m freestyle.
Having already claimed a silver medal in the 400m in the early hours of Monday morning, Carlin recorded the third fastest time of the heats to make her way into tomorrow’s final.
The 25-year-old went in the fourth and final heat of the 800m freestyle, alongside world record holder Katie Ledecky.
And it was the American, who clinched the gold medal in the 400m ahead of Carlin earlier in the week, who took the win with a time of 8 minutes 12.86 seconds.
The Tigersharks swimmer finished in third place with a time of 8:19.67, with Hungarian Boglarka Kapas claiming second spot, and Carlin says she is feeling in good form ahead of the final.
“I didn’t expect it to be 8:19. That’s the fastest heat swim I’ve done by three seconds. It felt really good in the race.
“Obviously it’s quite hard when you've got Katie (Ledecky) there swimming so fast so you’re trying to judge it off that but the main aim was to get into that final.
“There were a lot of girls gunning to be in that final and everyone will be fighting for the medals.
“It’s about finding that rhythm, setting that pace and I felt comfortable, especially in the first 400m I didn’t feel I was working too hard.
“I’ve got that speed from my 400m, which is something that I normally struggle with so it would be great to use that in the final and also try and make sure I have enough in the bank for the last half of the race.
“Naturally you want to improve and go faster and I did the best time ever in my 400m so hopefully I can get my 800m down to my best time or fastest so now I am just looking forward to it.”
Carlin will go in the final of the 800m at 2.20am (BST) on Saturday morning.
