AFTER stealing a £37 bottle of vodka from a town centre supermarket a man has been ordered to carry out unpaid work as he gets his heroin addiction in check.
Daniel Brown, 26, of Dunvant Road pleaded guilty to stealing the Ciroc green apple flavoured vodka from Morrisons at Regent Circus on October 8 when he came before magistrates sitting in Swindon.
Crown prosecutor Pauline Lambert told the bench that Brown had a long list of theft matters and had recently been jailed.
His defence, Sambreen Arif, explained that he was now back living with his mother and trying to get his life in order. He had even bought a PlayStation to distract him from old habits and bad company.
The court also heard that he had around £1,600 in outstanding compensation orders to pay off.
Sentencing him, chairman of the bench Debbie Slater imposed a 12 month community order and told him he must carry out 40 hours of unpaid work along with £37 compensation to Morrisons.
She said: "We are very impressed with what Miss Arif has said on your behalf and we understand that you are doing your very best to turn your life around. Make the most of the support the probation service can offer you."
