PROTESTERS surrounded the offices of RWE Npower in Windmill Hill Business Park this morning to call on the company to improve their pollution levels at a Wales power station.
Reclaim the Power brought along a variety of colourful banners and noise-makers to get their message heard regarding Aberthaw - a coal-burning power station near Barry in South Wales.
The group argue that the emissions from the station are causing “catastrophic” effects to climate change.
Pete McPhearson, who was at the protest, said: “Aberhaw coal power station must close. In fact all of Britain’s eight remaining power stations must close to reduce the worst effects of climate change. Investment must go into sustainable energy generation and reducing energy demand, which could supply work for the highly skilled people currently working in the dying coal industry.”
A spokesman from RWE Npower said: “People have the right to peaceful protest and Aberthaw power station operates in a highly regulated environment and complies with all environmental permits controlling the site. The station continues to have an important role to play in security of supply.”
