Labour's Mark Dempsey outlines what he can offer the voters of North Swindon at this election:

I am a local candidate. I live in North Swindon, I am also a local councillor alongside my day job as a sustainability manager.

As a local resident I can see that Swindon needs a better future. Seven years of Tory government have taken Swindon backwards with our NHS at breaking point and a crisis in school standards.

That’s why I would be extremely grateful for your support on June 8, so that together we can build a better future for Swindon.

HEALTH: Labour built our Great Western Hospital, cut waiting lists to record low levels, and achieved the highest satisfaction rating of the NHS in history.

However the Tories have left GWH at breaking point with the Red Cross stating our NHS faces a humanitarian crisis.

Labour will rebuild the NHS with an extra £7bn per year to ensure patients get the world-class quality of care they need.

By guaranteeing access to treatment within 18 weeks, we will take one million people off waiting lists by 2022.

EDUCATION: Ofsted has said under the Tories Swindon’s education system is “failing at all levels”; and that 50 per cent of our secondary schools are not meeting the required national standards.

In addition the Tories are planning a further £11m of cuts by 2019, the equivalent of 316 teachers.

Labour will invest an extra £6bn so that we can cut class sizes for five, six and seven-year-olds.

We will also introduce free school meals for all primary school children, and extend free 30 hours childcare to all two-year-olds.

In addition, Labour will restore the Education Maintenance Allowance for 16 to 18-year-olds and abolish tuition fees for university students so that we can unlock opportunity and build the skills for the future.

A BETTER FUTURE FOR SWINDON: The Tories have massively cut funding to our town by over £20m since 2013, closing libraries and Sure Start centres, and imposing the biggest council tax rise in the country.

At the same time they have failed to deliver regeneration, failed to secure a university for Swindon and failed to deliver the Northern Link Road.

Labour will help us build a better future for Swindon. We will create a National Transformation Fund that will invest £250bn over ten years in upgrading our economy; including transport, energy and superfast broadband. I will be fighting to ensure Swindon gets a big slice of these resources so that we can take forward the key projects that will transform our town.

I believe that Swindon has huge potential. As a local councillor I have worked positively to try to build a better future for our town and stood up for our residents when they needed help.

That is the kind of MP that I would be: championing Swindon, providing a strong local voice for residents and working hard to help transform our town.

Labour built the NHS and we will save it once again. Labour will give the NHS the funding it needs so that we can get waiting lists down and ensure patients get the world-class quality of care they need.

The Tories are planning to cut education spending in Swindon by £11m by 2019. Labour will invest an extra £6bn so that we can cut class sizes for 5, 6 and 6 year olds and ensure every student can realise their full potential.

The Tories have cut investment to Swindon by £22m since 2013 and imposed the biggest council tax rise in the country. I will provide a strong voice for Swindon and campaign for more investment for our town.

As Britain leaves the EU, I will press to get the best possible deal for our major employers such as Honda and BMW and for the 10,000 jobs in our town that depend on EU trade.

I will work positively to kick start the regeneration of our town centre – with our railway heritage at its heart.
