Liberal Democrat Stan Pajak outlines what he can offer the voters of South Swindon at this election:

I’m married to my wife Dawn and am the proud father of four children; two primary class teachers and two successful London executives.

Swindon born and bred, I have been an advocate for the people of Swindon all my adult life.

I attended Salford University reading Chemistry. Swindon educated at Holy Rood Primary and St Joseph’s Comprehensive.

I joined the Liberal Party in 1974 and was first elected as County Councillor for Eastcott ward in 1985 serving as joint Chair of the Highways Committee and Vice Chair of the Public Protection Committee.

I was elected to Thamesdown Council in 1987, which later became Swindon Borough Council in 2000.

I have had a continuous service as an Eastcott Councillor for 32 years.

I was Mayor of Swindon from 2002 to 2003 and as part of this I recognised the Polish heritage of the town and the Polish community in Swindon by linking Swindon with the historic Polish city of Torun.

I have an extensive portfolio of charity work, which includes walking the London Moonwalk (a walking marathon for Breast Cancer) and numerous marathons raising money for Swindon Dial-a-Ride (including this year’s Brighton Marathon), the Samaritans and Queen’s Park Community Council.

I have served in school governance for Swindon schools including Holy Rood Primary, Robert Le Kyng Primary, St Joseph’s Secondary and Commonweal Secondary schools.

As a community campaigner my local campaigns include residents parking, clean-ups, and Queen’s Park Community Council serving as Chair and Vice Chair from 1985 onwards.

I have served as the Liberal Democrat Chair and Vice Chair and I am currently the Liberal Democrat group leader of Swindon Borough Council.

I stood for Parliament for Swindon South in 1997 and have been an agent and campaign leader in local elections, orchestrating multiple campaigns.

I am so pleased and honoured to have been made the Lib Dem candidate for South Swindon in the June General Election.

My whole life has centred round my home town. My family grew up here and my greatest joy has been contributing to the life of our town through my role as a councillor, working in the community and with the wonderful charities of town.

The election is a real opportunity to change the direction of our country and provide the people with a government that represents 100 percent of the people, not just the leave voters amid the failure and terminal decline of a Labour opposition.

I am standing up for an open, tolerant and united Swindon and targeting where our town is failing in education, health and social care, housing, a town centre and heritage to be proud of and simply listening to its residents.

KEY PLEDGES:

The Lib Dems want a brighter future for our children, not Theresa May and Nigel Farage’s bad Brexit deal that will hurt you, Swindon jobs, your family, our schools and hospitals. Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour let you down by voting with Theresa May on Brexit – not against her. You should have your say on the Brexit deal in a referendum with the option to remain.

This country’s greatest asset the NHS is under threat. The Lib Dems will always fight to protect our health and care system. By putting a penny in the pound on income tax we will give the NHS and social care services the cash they need.

I have lived in Swindon all my life and served as a local councillor for more than half of it. Swindon is in my blood and the ultimate job would be to serve the residents of South Swindon as their MP by standing up for them, getting things done and keeping in touch.
