THAMESDOWN Transport has announced that from today passengers will be able to pay for their fare without the need for cash as the firm rolls out contactless payments across its fleet.
Go South Coast took over the reins of the council-owned bus service earlier this year., and it is hoped this latest move will increase accessibility and speed up overall journey times.
“From today we will be accepting all contactless payment types, including apple and android - as well as wearable devices like apple watch,” said Thamesdown general manager Alex Chutter.
“We are the first operator in Swindon to offer this facility - and it is all about providing our customers with quicker and more convenient ways to pay.
“I’d like to reassure customers who prefer to use other payment methods - like cash and TravelCard - that they will still be able to do so, and our drivers can give change.
The move follows the recent introduction of eight brand new buses, with more expected to follow later in the year.
“Our aim is to give people more choice, helping to make sustainable transport an even more attractive option here in Swindon,” added Alex.
“And I’m looking forward to hearing the views of those trying out the new system.”
