TRAFFIC was delayed because of a car fire on the M4 eastbound between junctions 17 (for Chippenham and Cirencester) and 16 (Swindon West/Marlborough) today.
One lane of the motorway was closed while emergency services were at the scene.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 9.14am to the M4 eastbound between junctions 17 and 16.
"Two crews attended from Swindon and Chippenham, one vehicle was well alight and destroyed by fire.
"Two breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire."
Traffic conditions have now returned to normal with the car moved to the hard shoulder. It is not thought there were any casualties.
