A CAR fire brought 999 crews to a town centre multi-storey car park.
Earlier believed to have been started "deliberately", police now say that the cause was "mechanical".
Three fire crews from Westlea, Stratton and Drove Road fire stations were called to the car blaze at the Fleming Way multi-storey car park shortly before 11.30am on Monday.
Police shut part of College Street beneath the car park while firefighters tackled the first floor fire.
Wiltshire Police said fire investigators now believe the fire was the result of a mechanical fault.
Kat Dodson, 35, whose car was parked nearby, said: “All I saw was the black smoke pouring out from the first floor of the car park. My car was on the same level as the fire, so I was really worried.
“I asked the firemen what had happened and they said there was a fault with a car and the engine had blown up.”
