Dan Greenwood, a rough sleeper who was found dead near the grounds of Swindon College earlier this year was just one of more than 400 homeless people who have died this year.
Mr Greenwood, who died aged 32 in April is included in a new database, the first of its kind, put together by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, recording as many deaths of homeless people as possible in the UK.
And it shows that 449 people without a home have died in Britain since October 2017.
The bureau said: "After learning that no official body counted the number of homeless people who have died, we set out to record all such deaths over the course of one year. Working with local journalists, charities and grassroots outreach groups to gather as much information as possible, the Bureau has compiled a first-of-its-kind database which lists the names of the dead and more importantly, tells their stories.
"The findings have sparked outrage amongst homeless charities, with one expert calling the work a “wake-up call to see homelessness as a national emergency”.
"Our investigation has prompted the Office for National Statistics to start producing its own figure on homeless deaths."
