POTENTIAL buyers had to keep their heads down when taking a look at the sex shop in Old Town.

Agents King Sturge sold the property in Devizes Road for more than £125,000, despite clients having to risk ridicule to inspect the shop.

The premises, renowned for operating as an unlicensed sex shop, may now be re-let by the new owners.

Giles Weir, from King Sturge, said: "From the outset there was a degree of humour as the shop was still operating.

"From the moment the sale board went up we had unprecedented levels of inquiries which we took to be genuine and not born out of mere curiosity.

"Thankfully, the demand for inspections was eagerly met by our two graduates who, I thought, showed true professionalism."

The viewing period coincided with the closure of Croft Road, which has lead to queues of stationary traffic by the shop.

Some clients were teased by waiting motorists as they tried to get into the shop.

Mr Weir said: "There were some issues, for example a number of interested parties didn't want to meet outside or go in by themselves - a problem when carrying out inspections.

"However, a number of parties could see the shop's potential and the new owner will no doubt be successful given the premises' excellent location."
