A PENCILLED note at the top of this picture says Richman’s general shop opened in 1914 and this photograph was taken in 1921.
According to another note on the back, the four people seen in the doorway of the Devizes Road shop are members of the Richman family, while the identity of the delivery boy standing with his bicycle is unknown.
The building, as eagle-eyed Rewind readers will realise, still exists.
A grocery shop for much of the 20th century, it was a sex shop by the end of the 1970s and empty by about the turn of this century.
Shuttered and shabby for several years, the building was revived as The Hop Inn and is now The Little Hop Inn.
