THIS week in 2008 a banking crisis was well on the way to plunging much of the world into recession.
Some of those who suffered didn’t even belong to the same species as the financiers and politicians many people accused of causing the disaster.
One Swindon veterinary practice took in seven abandoned or stray cats in 10 days, far more than usual, and three were left with a note saying their owners had been evicted.
