THIS week in 1954 was a good week for a good dog at Wroughton’s RAF base.
Rover - a female - was the official dog of a base firecrew, and rode with them on calls.
In addition to boosting morale, she found time to have about 100 puppies and raise a litter of stray kittens, when she came down with pneumonia her human colleagues cheered her up by lacing her milk with brandy.
Other Adver stories 65 years ago included the placing of a bust of Charles I to commemorate the monarch’s allowing Swindon to have a cattle market.
