OUR picture was taken in 1981 at Blagrove, which was far less built-up than it is now.
Wide open spaces were an ideal location for motorcycle rallies such as this one organised by the Motorcycle Action Group.
The nationwide riders’ organisation had been formed eight years earlier to protest against a new law mandating the wearing of helmets.
At that time, the issue was as controversial as the mandatory use of seatbelts, which would itself become law in 1984.
The Motorcycle Action Group today campaigns on a broad range of issues affecting motorcyclists.
