A FOUR-VEHICLE crash which killed one person and seriously injured another closed the M4 in one direction on Sunday morning.

UPDATE: The road has now reopened.

The motorway was shut westbound between junctions 17 and 18 after the serious collision which happened at 1.30am.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Four vehicles were involved. One person has sadly died and a second person was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

"The closure is likely to remain in place this morning so enquiries can be carried out at the scene.

"Diversions are in place so please leave extra time for your journeys."
