HARDLY anything in this picture remains.
Little more than the buildings in the right foreground, the No Entry signs and perhaps the drainage cover suggest this is Bridge Street, as seen from the end where Station Road becomes Sheppard Street and vice versa.
The picture was taken in mid-August of 1979.
The buildings on the left are gone, long since replaced by the Holbrook House office building, and the town centre Holiday Inn now soars to the right on the far side of the next junction, where Bridge Street meets Holbrook Way.
Parts of the David Murray John building, then three years old, can just be glimpsed.
