A LIDEN Primary School pupil was among the winners of MP Robert Buckland's annual Christmas card competition.

The Justice Secretary made an appearance at the school to hand deliver the certificate to eight-year-old Alisha.

She said: “I drew different baubles, one with a reindeer, one was pink and another had Santa on it.

“I was so happy and I tried my best. My mum was really happy and was very proud of me.

“When Robert Buckland came in I felt a little bit worried to stand up in front of everyone, I get a bit shy. But it went really well.”

The competition has been running annually for five years across schools in South Swindon.

Mr Buckland receives around 250 drawings each year and picks out the best to use on the front of his Christmas cards.

He said: “We have to sit through loads of entries to make a decision on the top three.

“I love doing it and it’s a very important part of my year as an MP.

“I always look for something interesting, novel perhaps and something people will remember.

“The cards seem to go down well with people who receive them. I will always remember the card a child drew of Santa and his reindeers going over Houses of Parliament, it was one of my favourites.”
