A WELSHMAN has had a conviction for breaching a restraining order thrown out by a Swindon Crown Court judge.

Benjamin Williams was convicted last August of breaching a restraining order by calling and sending texts to a woman the previous summer.

He was banned from contacting the woman under the terms of a restraining order imposed at the Black Country Magistrates’ Court in October 2017.

Williams, 25, of Llannefydd, Conwy, had denied the charge but was found guilty by Swindon magistrates.

The Welshman appealed that conviction to Swindon Crown Court.

Yesterday, prosecutor Oliver Kechan said the Crown would not be offering evidence in the case.

Judge Jason Taylor QC, sitting alongside two magistrates, said the appeal would be allowed and the conviction duly quashed.

Tony Bignall, defending, asked for seven days to make any application for the court to pay travel expenses. Williams was not present at court.
