Swindon's first coronavirus death has been confirmed.
The man, who was in his 80s with underlying health conditions, was being cared for at the Great Western Hospital.
A Great Western Hospitals NHS Trust spokesperson said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a man who was being cared for at Great Western Hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.
“The patient, who died on March 19, was in his 80s, had underlying health conditions.
“His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”
South Swindon MP Robert Buckland said: "My thoughts are with the deceased at this difficult time.
"The coming weeks and months are not going to be easy but the government is going to do whatever it takes to get our country through this difficult situation."
Swindon Borough Council’s leader David Renard said: “Any death is regrettable and everyone is doing their best to mitigate the circumstances we find ourselves in."
