STUDENTS with a Welsh background can get help to study at the Royal Agricultural University.

The Sir Emrys Jones Memorial Trust Award can offer £4,500 to undergraduates and £3,000 to graduate students who are either from Wales or whose parents or grandparents come from, live or have lived in the country.

It is named after William Emrys Jones, a farmer’s son who became the RAU principal in 1973.

One beneficiary is current student union president at the Cirencester college Lewis Bebb, from north Wales.

He said: “This award allowed me to focus on my studies without having to worry about the financial side of university.

“I loved my time at the RAU. The best part is the contact you get with the lecturers – it is a small community meaning you get to know them personally. The university also provides great networking opportunities for the future.”

Undergraduates can get up to up to £4,500 over three years, while postgraduate students may be given up to £3,000, normally for one academic year only.
