It’s been one of the town’s most eye-catching buildings for nearly four decades and even though the French car maker left it 20 years ago it is still known to almost everyone as the Renault Building.
The glass and metal structure in Mead Way, which was one of the locations in the 1984 Bond film A View To A Kill, actually opened as a national parts distribution centre for the firm.
Designed by Sir Norman Foster, who updated the Reichstag in Berlin after the reunification of Germany and designed the Gherkin in London, the building was given listed status seven years ago.
It has been officially called the Spectrum Building since 2001and has had several incarnations, including as a warehouse. But it still bears the signature Renault yellow colour on its supports,
